A well-selected homeopathic remedy shifts one’s susceptibility to react to their environment in a particular way and catalyzes healing.
There are over 2,000 homeopathic remedies. Technically, a homeopathic remedy is a substance derived from the natural world that has been highly diluted and succussed (or vigorously shaken). The medicine itself usually comes in either a dissolvable pellet or liquid form. A homeopathic remedy is void of any detectable particles of the original material – per instrumentation currently available. An energetic imprint of the original substance is suspected to remain; however, the exact mechanism of action of homeopathic remedies has not yet been delineated.
The use of homeopathy has centuries of clinical evidence supporting its efficacy. It’s safe and compatible with pharmaceutical medications, though it may reduce someone’s need for them over time.
Homeopathy is based on the Law of Similars or the idea that “like treats like.” For example: The homeopathic remedy apis comes from bee venom. We know that a bee sting will often cause redness, swelling and local heat at the site of the sting. Thus, homeopathic bee venom (apis) may be used for these symptoms precisely. Here is an article Dr. Bloomindale wrote for Naturopathic Doctors News and Review with a more elaborate example: Using Cycles and Segments to Practice Homeopathy More Effectively – Hemorrhoids in a Paeonia Case.
There are a variety of ways that homeopathy is practiced today. Dr. Bloomingdale has studied with world-renowned homeopaths including Will Taylor, MD, Amy Rothenberg, ND and Paul Herscu, ND, MPH. After an extensive homeopathy-specific intake, she analyzes a case with the Cycles and Segments methodology and suggests a single homeopathic remedy. Some refer to this as classical or constitutional homeopathy.
The correct constitutional homeopathic remedy will usually help someone with their main complaint, but depending on what it is, we may expect to see other changes first. This could look like someone having deeper sleep and greater emotional ease with their homeopathic remedy, but not seeing much change in their chief symptom right away. It’s important to be patient and recognize how true healing occurs in layers. Dr. Bloomingdale finds this mindset shift and education around avoiding suppression of symptoms to be a big part of her work. There is a time and place for suppressive therapies – they can be life-saving. There is also a time and place for digging below the surface and uncovering what’s happening foundationally.
